Appointing and removing directors

A company’s directors are recorded on the public register, so every joining, leaving and change of details must be notified to Companies House.

Appointing a director

The board (or the members, depending on the articles) resolves to appoint. The new director must be at least 16 and must consent to act. File form AP01 (or AP02 for a corporate director) within 14 days of the appointment, and enter them in the register of directors.

A director leaving

Whether they resign, are removed or pass away, file form TM01 within 14 days of the date the appointment ended — one director per form — and update the register. Take care with the date: it is the day the appointment actually ended, not the day you file.

Changes of details

A change of name, address, nationality or occupation is filed on form CH01 within 14 days. In Compaxit, prepare any of these from the company’s Transactions catalogue — the company’s details are filled in for you, and the finished PDF is ready to check and file.

Do this in Compaxit

Compaxit turns these procedures into a few guided clicks — on your own letterhead, filed correctly.
